Job Description
Job Description

Tax & Accounting Manager | Southport QLD | Full-Time

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced CPA-qualified Tax Accountant ready to take the next step into leadership, manage a small team, and take ownership of the tax and accounting function within an established financial services business.

Our client is an award-winning, multi-disciplinary financial services group with more than 20 years in business, supporting thousands of Australians across tax, financial planning, finance, and property. Their approach brings multiple financial disciplines together to provide clients with strategically aligned, holistic advice rather than treating tax and accounting in isolation.

Based in Southport on the Gold Coast, they are looking for a Tax & Accounting Office Manager to join their team. This position could suit an established manager or a strong mid-level Tax Accountant who has developed solid technical capability and is ready to step up, lead a small team of three, and take greater ownership of client relationships and the broader tax function.

The successful candidate will also act as the Responsible Manager on the organisation’s Tax Agent registration, making this an excellent opportunity for someone looking to move beyond a traditional compliance-focused accounting role and establish themselves in a genuine leadership position.

You’ll remain hands-on across tax and accounting while taking responsibility for team workflow, quality, client relationships, technical guidance, and the continued development of the division.

If you are technically strong, commercially minded, confident with clients, and ready to take ownership of a team and function, this is an opportunity to make a meaningful career move within an established and growing financial services business.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare and review individual, company, trust, and partnership tax returns

  • Prepare and lodge BAS and IAS

  • Prepare financial statements and management reports

  • Provide taxation and accounting advice to clients

  • Assist clients with tax planning and business structuring

  • Review client accounts and identify discrepancies, risks, and opportunities

  • Manage ATO correspondence, queries, and audits where required

  • Assist clients across GST, PAYG, CGT, and FBT matters

  • Maintain high-quality workpapers and client records

  • Build and maintain strong, trusted relationships with clients

  • Understand clients’ broader financial and commercial objectives

  • Provide practical, commercially focused taxation and accounting advice

  • Identify opportunities to improve client outcomes through tax planning, structuring, and advisory services

  • Work collaboratively with Financial Planning and Finance teams to provide clients with a genuinely holistic service

  • Lead and support a small tax and accounting team of three

  • Review and oversee the team’s work to ensure quality and accuracy

  • Allocate and prioritise workloads and manage key deadlines

  • Provide guidance, coaching, and technical support to team members

  • Develop consistent processes and improve the efficiency of the tax and accounting function

  • Take ownership of the team’s workflow, standards, and client service

  • Work closely with management to continue developing and growing the Tax & Accounting division

  • Act as the Responsible Manager in relation to the organisation’s Tax Agent registration

ABOUT YOU

  • CPA qualified and currently registered, with strong Australian taxation and accounting experience

  • You may currently be working at an intermediate, senior, or supervisor level and be ready to take the next step into management

  • Strong technical knowledge across Australian taxation, accounting, and compliance requirements

  • Experience preparing and reviewing individual, company, trust, and partnership tax returns

  • Strong understanding of BAS, IAS, GST, PAYG, CGT, and FBT

  • Confident dealing with the ATO and managing client taxation matters

  • Strong client relationship management and communication skills

  • Commercially minded with the ability to provide practical advice beyond basic tax compliance

  • Comfortable reviewing the work of others and maintaining high standards of accuracy and quality

  • Ready to lead, mentor, and support a small team of three

  • Highly organised with the ability to manage competing deadlines and client requirements

  • Proactive and comfortable taking ownership rather than waiting for direction

  • Professional, personable, and confident communicating with clients and internal stakeholders

  • Collaborative approach and comfortable working alongside professionals across financial planning and finance

  • Motivated by the opportunity to help develop and grow a tax and accounting division

  • Suitable and willing to take responsibility as the Responsible Manager on the organisation’s Tax Agent registration

WHAT’S ON OFFER

  • Salary circa $90,000 + superannuation

  • Full-time, permanent position

  • Southport, Gold Coast location

  • Office-based position working alongside the broader team

  • Step-up opportunity for a strong mid-level or senior Tax Accountant ready to move into management

  • Work within a broader business spanning tax, financial planning, finance, and property services

  • Exposure to a holistic client model where tax professionals collaborate with other financial specialists

  • Opportunity to move beyond pure compliance work into client advisory, leadership, and commercial responsibility

  • Genuine opportunity to help shape, improve, and grow the Tax & Accounting division

  • Long-term career opportunity for an accountant ready to take the next step into leadership
